Harambee Stars stun World Cup hosts Qatar in Doha.

On 7th September 2023 the Harambee Stars stunned 2022 World Cup hosts Qatar 2-1 in an International Friendly Match played at the Al Janoub Stadium in Doha, Qatar.

The Stars pulled a late goal in stoppage time to send the stadium erupting in jubilation as the match was set to end in a one all draw.

Amos Nondi came off the bench to score the winner in stoppage time after a brilliant run from Captain Michael Olunga to assist the FC Ararat-Armenia midfielder.

Joseph Okumu, the Stade de Reims defender, scored Kenya’s first goal through a glancing header to give Stars the lead in the 20th minute before Hassan Al-Haydos equalized for Qatar from the penalty spot 14 minutes later.

This was the first outing for the Stars in Qatar and Kenyans did not disappoint as they trooped in the thousands to the Al Janoub Stadium to cheer the Harambee Stars. The turn was amazing and attendance was registered at 15,400 majority of whom were Kenyans, other Africans, Qatari fans and members of the Diplomatic Corps in Qatar.

The game was a perfect opportunity for the Kenyan Diaspora in Qatar to come out and show support for the National Team and they lived up to expectations.

The Embassy, Federation of Kenyan Football (FKF) and the Qatar Football Association (QFA) worked in collaboration to ensure that majority of Kenyan fans were facilitated to attend the Match.
