Postponement of diaspora voter registration 08/12/2021
STATEMENT BY THE IEBC ON POSTPONEMENT OF DIASPORA VOTER REGISTRATION :
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) wishes to inform that voter registration exercise for citizens residing outside Kenya which was scheduled for 6th December 2021 to 21st December 2021 has been rescheduled to start on 17th January, 2022 for 15 days. The exercise is expected to be concluded on 31st January, 2022.
The postponement was necessitated by challenges emanating from some host countries including strict visa application requirements and feedback from ongoing mapping exercise and diaspora groups.
Additionally, It is worth noting that this years’ Christmas holiday is coming at a time when our country has lifted the movement restrictions which had affected celebrations in the past two years. Many Kenyans residing outside Kenya have expressed interest to travel home during this period.
Meanwhile, the Embassy urges any Kenyan in Qatar with expired, lost or mutilated passport to visit the Embassy for replacement in readiness for the registration exercise.
